2,4-Dimethoxyphenol (also known as 2,4-DMP) is an organic compound. Its chemical formula is C8H10O2.
Nature:
2,4-Dimethoxyphenol is a white crystal with a fragrant odor. It is insoluble in water at room temperature, but soluble in many organic solvents, such as ethanol, acetone and dichloromethane. The compound has a melting point of 51°C to 53°C and a boiling point of 285°C.
Use:
2,4-dimethoxyphenol has a variety of uses in the field of chemical synthesis. It can be used as a raw material for the production of dyes and photosensitive materials. In addition, it is also used as a reducing agent and an oxidizing agent in organic synthesis reactions.
Preparation Method:
2,4-dimethoxyphenol can be prepared by methyl etherification of p-cresol under acidic conditions. That is, in an alkaline solution, methyl bromide is reacted to produce cresol sodium salt, and then transesterification is carried out under acidic conditions to obtain 2,4-dimethoxyphenol.
